The Sioux Falls Catholic Schools are committed to providing appropriate education services to all students whenever possible. We aim to provide a strong, rigorous curriculum that meets and exceeds Federal and State standards. Each school offers academic support to students to achieve their potential and to aid in promoting a positive learning experience. The designated Academic Services staff and other school personnel collaborate with parents to design a plan to meet the individual needs of students.

Students with special needs for learning are identified by one or more of the following; medical diagnosis, comprehensive testing, and/or professional assessment. These qualified students are offered the following services or curriculum accommodations:

  • Code (M) – Modified Instruction:  Reflects significant adaptations in instruction or materials.
  • Code (K) – Alternative Curriculum:  Reflects replacement of grade level curriculum with an alternate curriculum.
  • Code (R) – Enriched Curriculum: Reflects purposeful enrichment of the grade level curriculum.

Modified Instruction, Code (M):

Significant adaptations in instruction or materials as determined by the school’s Academic Services staff and other school personnel. These modifications enable a student to succeed, without altering the objectives for that curriculum area. Modified curriculums may include modification in presentation, form, time consideration, etc.

Alternate Curriculum, Code (K):

One that replaces the designated SFCS grade level curriculum. This is designed by the classroom teacher, parents, Academic Services staff and other school personnel to accommodate the student’s academic growth. Educational opportunities are provided in and/or out of the classroom to meet the student’s needs.

Enriched Curriculum, Code (R):

Can be a modified or alternate curriculum that focuses on the enrichment of the grade level curriculum to further the student’s academic growth.  This is designed by the classroom teacher, parents, Academic Services staff and other school personnel to accommodate the student’s academic growth. Educational opportunities are provided in and/or out of the classroom to meet the student’s needs.
